Hindmarsh is an inner-city suburb of Adelaide, bordered by South Road to the west, North Adelaide to the east, and the River Torrens to the south. Before European settlement, the area was home to the Kaurna people.

The suburb was named by South Australia's first Governor, Sir John Hindmarsh, who with Arthur Lindsay laid it out as the colony's first private town in 1838. In 1916, the old town hall was redeveloped into the Star Theatre, later known by several names before closing in 1990.

Today, Hindmarsh is home to major venues including Hindmarsh Stadium (home of Adelaide United), the Adelaide Entertainment Centre, Holden Street Theatres, the Education Development Centre, Seven Network's Adelaide TV studios, and the Hindmarsh Library.
