Surrounded by the foothills of the Lamington National Park, Canungra is a rural town and locality in the Scenic Rim Region of South East Queensland. Known as the 'Valley of the Owls', Canungra was established to service the early cedar getters and sawmillers in the area. In the early 20th century, the town was home to the largest softwood timber mill in Australia.

The town is well known for its surrounding tourist attractions such as farmstays, bed and breakfasts, cabin accommodation and vineyards. Many visitors also stop at Canungra en route to the Lamington National Park and the mountain resorts of Binna Burra and O'Reilly's Rainforest Retreat.
