Named after the nearby outcrop and mine, Peak Hill lies in central western NSW and along the Newell Highway between Dubbo and Parkes. Established in the late 1880s when gold was discovered in the area, the town eventually established itself as a rural centre once the mining operations dwindled by the early 1920s. Of interest in the area includes tours of the old gold mine, St James Catholic Church, Bogan Weir (7 km west) and Goobang National Park (15 km east).
