General Information:
The Ipswich Motorway is a major east-west artery in the western suburbs of Brisbane. Prior to being renumbered to M7, it was part of Metroad 2, and consisted of a limited access route with 2 lanes in each direction. It began life as Brisbane Road, before evolving into the form in takes today.
History:
- 13 December 1921: Brisbane-Toowoomba Road was declared a Main Road under the Main Roads Act, 1920. 2
- 22 September 1971: Rocklea Overpass opened by then Premier Sir Joh Bjelke-Petersen. 3
- 18 September 1988: Oxley Road Interchange opened by then Minister for Main Roads Bill Gunn. 3
- 1993: Ipswich Motorway Donaldson Road overpass construction. 3
- 12 February 1993: Oxley Flats duplication opened by then Minister for Transport David Hamill. 3
- 1994: Ipswich Motorway Dinmore to Archerfield grade-separation. 4
- 1995: Metroad 2 replaced National Route 15 as part of the Metroad numbering system introduction.
- 23 December 1997: Ipswich Motorway safety works at Dinmore including a barrier between the north and and southbound traffic lanes. 3
- 31 August 2006: Granard Road northbound overpass opened by then Federal Minister for Transport Jim Lloyd. 3
- February 2007: Construction commenced on the Logan Mwy / Ipswich Mwy interchange upgrade. 5
- November 2008: Metroad 2 truncated with the introduction of M7 along Ipswich Mwy from Dinmore to Rocklea. 6
