General Information:
B84 is an east-west rural highway which links the state's west with the Hunter Valley, and eventually the Newcastle ports, via New England Highway and Hunter Expressway.
The route services mostly rural, commericial, residential and vineyard areas.
Multiplexes along the route include:
- B55, for 10 km, between Craboon and Dunedoo.
History:
- 18 February 1998: Bowmans Crossing Bridge over the Hunter River at Jerrys Plains opened to traffic. 2
- February 2000: Reconstruction and widening of 4 km from Fitzells Creek to Ballimore. 3
- June 2001: Widening of the highway from West of Dunedoo to Cobborah. 3
- October 2010: Completion of the first stage of an upgrade west of Gungal, covering a distance of 1.8 kilometres. The work included widening of the roadway. 4
- 2011: Work begins on an upgrade of Hunter River Bridge at Denman. 5
- June 2011: Completion of the upgrade of a 2.5 kilometre section of the highway west of Gungal. It was second stage of work, which included widening the road to provide two metre sealed shoulders on either side of the highway and the installation of barriers. 4
- July 2011: Completion of an extensive upgrade of the Cassilis rest area west of Merriwa. 6
